Today is National Blueberry Pancake Day, which made me hungry, but also made me wonder.... do you have a favorite family recipe that's been handed down generation to generation?  If so, share it here!

I'm not supposed to eat pancakes anymore, but I'm enjoying some fresh Blueberries, of which your question reminded that I have a supply in the 'fridge.  Thanks, Eowyn.  cool

Always happy to help Keith, always happy to help. laugh

Meatloaf

1 1/2 cup old fashion rolled oats

1 onion, chopped fine

2 eggs, slightly beaten

2 pounds ground beef

1 Pound pork sausage

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

2 teaspoons dry mustard

2 teaspoons salt

1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

1 cup milk

1/2 cup ketchup

Preheat the oven to 350 F

Combine all the ingredients together in a large bowl

Pat into the loaf pans and bake for 45 to 55 minutes.

Key to the recipe, good old fashioned rolled oats, whole milk, cheap beef (lots of fat) and good ketchup.    I remember my grandmother making this and she told me it was her mother's recipe....

Hi Eowyn,

Need I say more than Haggis, black pudding (it's called blood pudding in the US), white pudding (it's black pudding minus the blood) and the next one will get Google overloaded s it is called Mealy Bag.

A modern family recipe I am passing down is a poor man's Carbonara. One pot and one frying pan (skillet)  or two pots  (two of what ever used and it saves on the washing up) one of them has to be something to boil water in (I thinks that is called a pot) lol

Preparation.

Slice onions, mushrooms, garlic, tomatoes and grate some cheese, get some favourite Italian herbs and or spices.

Start a pot of boiling water, heat the frying pan/skillet. Cook pasta as normal.

Fry everything else and add herbs and  or spices as appropriate (if dry spices add them early if the spices are fresh add later towards the end of the frying), fresh herbs add towards the end, apart from the cheese leaving the tomatoes to a minute or two from the end (depends on how "watery" the tomatoes are).

Drain the fried ingredients, drain pasta toss fried ingredients into pasta, place back on a low heat and add cheese (fresh herbs are good to add at this point), stir until cheese is nicely melted and cover pasta and other ingredients ( fresh ground black pepper can be good here as well).

Serve and enjoy.

All the best
