Merge / match glitch or bug [closed]

On this profile it seems that I have proposed another merge today: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Van_Staden-34 - yet I haven't ... how is this possible? I did set them as matches June the 4th awaiting further research. When I now try and match the merge proposal it says that it has already been matched … yet it is in limbo as merge proposal (the fact that both profiles are protected has nothing to do with this issue).

Philip, you did set them as Matched on June 4th, correct?  Those Matches can be turned into Merges and the system doesn't like the possibility of multiple merges to Profiles

Just go to Van Staden-34 and scroll to the bottom and you'll see the Unmerged Mntches.  Just click on [remove] to get them out of the system and you should be good to go.  You shouldn't have any problem removing them as you initiated the Matches.

Hi Russell, the thing is that I did not initiate another merge this morning (June 8, 2018). And yet suddenly there is a ghost merge proposal of me with the date of today. I do not want to remove the matches; they have already been set the 4th of July.

If I did not initiate another merge who then did?
No matter. I see that they were removed as matches by another person so I just reset them as unmerged matches.
This is odd because the Changes to Profile Van_Staden-34 show you initiated the change this morning.  The Changes to Profile Van_Staden-195 show you initiated a change this morning.  And your contribution list shows this as well.  And this mornings match has the exact same comment as on the Jun 4th Matches you posted.  This mornings Merge Post is also the only activity on your Contribution list at that time.  You had activity 5 hours before and 4 hours after.  Just that one lonely activity.

So if not you Philip, then you have good question. If it was a WikiTree bot that did this, it would say the bot initiated this mornings post so I don't believe a bot is responsible.  I am at a loss.  Ghosts in the machine???

One thing, if this happens again, please use the tag MENTORS in your G2G question, bring the big guns in.

That is correct. The changes tab shows: 20:12: You proposed a merge of Van Staden-195 and Van Staden-34 with a comment.

I am absolutely certain that I did not do that. What happened is that I opened / clicked on the profile. And not even the edit page. Thanks LJ for believing me!

Though my contributions list shows only the moment after the matches were removed when I added another unmerge match, not any merge proposals for those two profiles:

05:46: You added an unmerged match of Van Staden-34 and Van Staden-195.

05:46: You added an unmerged match of Van Staden-34 and Van Staden-195.

So to conclude the changes tab and my contributions thread are at odds regarding the facts.
