Need help with brick wall on Judith Bacon (1852-1883)

Question

I have been able to trace my wife's heritage to her great-grandmother, but hit a complete brick wall on Bacon-4539. The 1860 Census indicates that she is living with Samuel Webb, not Bacon. I have speculated that this may be her step-father, but have no evidence other than the census. Anyone?

If Samuel has a wife showing in the census then I would look to see whether she may have been Judy's widowed mother.

I tried that but couldn't find anything for Mary L. Bacon. Any other thoughts?

Worth looking to see if Judy could be their niece. You could try looking for the marriage of Samuel and Mary L to get her maiden name. Then consider whether either of this couple may have had a sister who married a Mr. Bacon. I have a couple of instances in my tree where ancestors are living with uncles or aunts. It may happen if the parents die or may just be due to financial circumstances.
