Please keep an open mind - you may or may not really mean Russia, even though you knew the person and she said she was born in Russia!
I had that situation with my paternal grandmother - she and my father always said she came here from Russia, but I discovered it was Lithuania.
In the late 1800's and early 1900's (at least) when people immigrated here, they were recorded as from Russia if they came from any of the countries that were part of the Russian Empire at that time.

About foreign language sites - if you copy the address, then go to translate.google.com, you can paste in the address and get the page translated to English - not the best translation, but a whole lot better than something that is gibberish to you.
