Spanish Place Names

+7 votes

The Spain Project would like to propose the following category structure for Spanish place names:

   --- Autonomous Community

      --- Province

         --- Municipality

            --- Village/Town/CIty, Province

We would also like to do the same in Spanish, using Spanish place names.

We would appreciate your input and advice on this, as well as, of course, your feedback. Thanks.

There is an advantage in having just one place category to go on a profile.  In how many instances is the village/town/city that the profile would be attached to different in Spanish and English?

It is generally accepted across WikiTree that we will have language portals for countries where English is not the first language. This has already been the case in the Netherlands and elsewhere. There are a large number of instances in Spain where the names are different in England and Spanish and it is absolutely appropriate to have both categories on these profiles. Where they are the same there will of course only need to be one and it will then link to being under both Spain and España category branches. Much of this work was already done in the past. It just needs consolidating and seriously tidying up.
