I'm working on some of the Lincolnshire Unconnected profiles and run into William Coult and Mary Plaxton. They're not completely unsourced, but I think the Ancestry tree from which the gedcom was sourced is flawed. My arguments are under the Research Notes section but, as noted, I still have some reservations about my conclusions. Would anyone care to give an opinion?

Your argument for Carr instead of Plaxton is sound and supported by the facts. I checked the GRO index for the birth registrations of Simpson Coult, Smith Coult and Sarah Coult and the mother's maiden surname is recorded as Carr !

COULT, SIMPSON         CARR
GRO Reference: 1838  M Quarter in GOOLE UNION  Volume 23  Page 218

COULT, SMITH         CARR
GRO Reference: 1848  D Quarter in GOOLE UNION  Volume 23  Page 245

COULT, SARAH         CARR
GRO Reference: 1840  M Quarter in GOOLE UNION  Volume 23  Page 240

COULT, THOMAS         CARR
GRO Reference: 1850  D Quarter in GOOLE UNION  Volume 23  Page 295

COLT, ELIZABETH         CARR
GRO Reference: 1853  S Quarter in GOOLE UNION  Volume 09C  Page 411

William, however has a different mother - recorded as Playton

COULT, WILLIAM         PLAYTON
GRO Reference: 1842  J Quarter in GOOLE UNION  Volume 23  Page 239

Mary's mother is Plaxton, so this could be a case of two families mixed up

COULT, MARY  JANE       PLAXTON

William does appear with his siblings in the 1851 census living in Adlingfleet where all the other  children were also born ( Simpson , Sarah ,Mary Ann, Smith and Thomas were born.)Either he wasn't registered or there is a  miss transcription. He doesnt appear on the free bmd index either

There is a family living in Swinefleet Yorkshire, in 1851. William Coult, 24  wife Mary,  31, children William 8, Samuel 6 and Mark. The birthplace of Mary is given as Rawcliffe, Yorkshire.
COULT, SAMUEL        PLAXTON
GRO Reference: 1846  S Quarter in GOOLE UNION  Volume 23  Page 267
 COULT, MARK        PLAXTON
GRO Reference: 1849  J Quarter in GOOLE UNION  Volume 23  Page 295
I don’t usually work on profiles this late and I keep forgetting about the GRO records. Thanks for this.
Following Helen's lead and with the aid of a large latte, I've found there were two men named William Coult, one married Mary Ann Carr in 1837 and the other married Mary Plaxton in 1841. Both then lived in the Goole registration district and had several children each.
