Howdy, have a quick question and I'll try to keep it simple; but be warned, I do tend to get verbose when stepping up to the podium. On an ancestor's profile I created on June 2 I created a new section that I headlined with NOTE. This was not a research note, I hope to eventually have a section for that. NOTE is more of a "Achtung! Minen" sign, trying to attract the visitors' attention before they proceeded. This particular profile is one of a number of ancestors whose exposure on Ancestry is hopelessly conflated; a problem I find particularly irritating. Trying to forestall the problem in this case on Wikitree.
Anyway, the day after I started the profile I fell ill and was not able to continue on the profile; still trying to completely recover. The day after that I was back at my computer briefly and saw that two different people had made changes already, which is okay, collaboration, right! I hoped that they might be distant cousins, but upon checking them and the changes they were making on a variety of profiles I realized that they were probably part of one of the Data Doctor marathon type of things. One had made location changes, adding “United Sates” and correcting typos. No problem, thanks! The other had made a number of format changes, adding a source (already on my list of additions to add myself), etc. But my NOTE was changed to Research Notes and moved under the bio. After thinking about it the past week, I decided to ask for more guidance in the forum for future reference. I have reverted that particular change to illustrate what I am discussing.
I don’t see it as a research note, I have more info for the research section during later changes I hope to make. I had gone through everything I could find in the help and the forum, eventually deciding that there seemed to be a small allowance for a free-form section and so I titled it NOTE and put it at the beginning so it would be immediately noticeable.
So, is there a definite policy or guideline on something like this? I’m perfectly ready to change it back to the previous modification. It just seems more logical/useful to me this way.
Please don’t get me wrong, this is not a “my tree, my profile” thing. You have no idea how much I feel that the collaborative one world tree is long overdue. This is more of an Ancestry irk of long duration and trying to keep it from spreading.
Thank you for guidance on all things Wikitree
