Brick Wall: Susan A. Ganung nee Wood

In a funeral notice for Mrs. Pamela. Sherwood in The Bridgeport Telegram (Bridgeport, Connecticut) ยท 19 Feb 1925, it was reported that the deceased was survived by one daughter, Mrs Carrie B Sherwood, two sisters, Mrs Marcus Ganung and Miss Marjane Brltt, of Port Chester  [NY] and a brother, John Brltt, the oldest member of the Port Chester fire department.

This has been a long time brick wall for me and any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill

The above record shows Mary Woods as sister-in-law so that would make her Susan's sister.

Thanks for your reply Betty.  I find Mary Woods listed as a young child in U.S. Censuses for the NY City area, but never in the presence of Susan.  And Susan is only 3 years older than Mary.  Searching for Susan Woodis a dead end too.

A Marcus Ganung shows up repeatly in New York state censuses as well as federal. Findagrave has a memorial at:

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/161164176

that list a Susan Wood as the spouse.

Marcus: b. 1857, d. 1920

Susan: b. 1857, d. 1927

No other family members listed, but if you need me to, I'll look at the census records for you. Just let me know.

Thanks, Pip. I've gone through the census records.  They all show Susan Wood as the spouse of Marcus Ganung, but I can find no hint of her parents.

It looks like it is possible that her sister Maria married one Alexander Ganung:
