Should we change Gerberga of Saxony's last name?

+7 votes

There is a pending merge for Gerberga, Louis IV d'Outremer's queen, and her duplicate Liudolfing-14. This is a good opportunity to revisit the LNAB.

Gerberga's father has Liudolfing as LNAB, which looks like it could be a better for Gerberga than "Sachsen".

Should we change it, remove the PPP which is currently on Sachsen-22 and give it to  Liudolfing-14 instead, so that Gerberga would end up with Liudolfing as LNAB? (or should it be Liudolfinger?)

Thank you !

Thanks Isabelle for asking this question

I did change the LNAB to Liudolfing instead of Holy Roman Empire, but ran out of time to go through the process of changing PPP etc.

I did go with Liudolfing based on a previous G2G, but perhaps it should be Liudolfinger?  I pretty hazy here, but I think based on another question Helmut answered, Liudolfing refers to a single member of the dynasty, and Liudolfinger the dynasty as a whole?

Yes, that was also how I understood it.

But based on yet another G2G, we consider carefully before changing existing Liudolfing profiles to Liudolfinger as that would create more redirectictions, and Liudolfing is an acceptable name. So far we have 11 Liudolfing profiles and 0 Liudolfinger.
Liudolfing seems better? All names are names of individuals, and I think using a collective word for a "surname" is something we do when we have no other option?
It seems dynasty names (collective) are preferred, especially for early profiles where the concept of family name is really really remote. It seems (I may be wrong there) that one of the reasons for preferring them is that they solve the problem of different names for sons and daughters in languages where family names are gender-specific.

But in this case, I find Liudolfinger more awkward than Liudolfing.
