This article by Matt Crossman starts off with his recounting his experience in the Italian alps where he was stunned to bump into someone with the same last name as his great-grandmother when visiting a tiny town with population 65!
This article has some fairly basic information in the eight tips it provides, but success usually comes from doing a good job at the basics.
I love the personal details provided throughout this article, and even if you decide not all these tips will work for you, you'll likely at least be entertained--and at best get some inspiration to take your genealogical research to the next level.
