I'm not familiar with the categories widget. Can you post a link to it? Tx.

Look at your own profile, on the Edit page.  See the little buttons just above the biography box (for things like 'cite your sources!') Now there's a little category tree, right in between the horizontal rule and the C.

And have a read of the following thread:

Thanks Ros you beat me to it

For a little background on what categories are and why they're useful at WikiTree:  essentially, categories are groups of profiles, as explained here:

WikiTree Category FAQ
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Category_FAQ

The usefulness of categories comes in when you wish to find profiles that share commonalities, such as where they were born, which cemetery they were buried, schools they attended, occupations they practiced, religions they belonged to, military regiments or medals, special things that set them apart (ie: quintuplets), and so forth.  Here's a great overview of how to use these categories at WikiTree:

WikiTree Help:  Categorization
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Categorization

So the new widget makes it much easier to use the WikiTree categories--which are accessible any time you are on a profile by looking for a certain icon in the toolbar above the biography section on a profile's edit page (as described in the link to help page above).

I agree! Whoever created it made something ingenious! Now members can choose in the drop down from already created categories instead of trying to figure out how to create their own. This is going to save the categorization project oodles of time cleaning up misnamed new categories!
