After spending a whole day in the lovely city of Fayette, I found a photo of one of my ancestors. It wasn't what I went there to look for, but it's really cool to have.

I wanted to share this family photo of William Gamble with the community. Location: unknown. Date: unknown.

Got it! Many thanks. The WT site is so humongous that I haven’t seen it all yet, but I’m trying!

Thank you Allison for sharing this wonderful photo with us. William, from his facial expression seems to be a very stern gentleman who would not tolerate any nonsense or disrespect, what a treasure.

Thank you, Allison, for sharing this photo of William Gamble, and adding it to his profile, too!  This photo really adds depth and a sense of immediacy to 'old stories from the past' regarding how William was the only one of his siblings born in the USA when his family immigrated from England--and also how and why William would move into the town of Fayette to run a grocery business, perhaps in part in order to ensure good education for his children.

Something about the set of William's eyes, and a sense of him being a bit tight-lipped in this photo give me the impression of a man who may have been known as a man of few words--yet when he spoke, I'm sure the words he spoke were pearls of wisdom.  His expression and coutenance suggest to me that this was a man who could see through ruses and falsehoods, and whose face likely prompted people to be on their best behavior.  I can just imagine him running a grocery in Fayette in its early days, with shoppers grateful to have such a man of obvious practical, capable nature running the store. I'm sure he kept the goods well-stocked, and the place clean and well-run!
