Isle of Lewis, Scotland Y-DNA

+5 votes
I'm hoping to make contact with any persons of Isle of Lewis, Scotland descent, who may have undertaken a Y-DNA test.

I'm curious to find out the DNA origins of families in Lewis as well as hear from any potential relations.

I had numerous ancestors who emigrated to the US and Canada. Surnames in my family background include: Macdonald (possibly 4-5 distinct groups), Maciver, Macarthur, Mackay, Morrison, Smith, Maclean, MacMillan, MacNeil, Macleod, Murray, Stewart, Chisholm, Graham, Beaton, Ferguson, Matheson and MacPhail.

I appreciate any information available.

Many thanks

Does Lewis have a local genealogical society? If not, perhaps there is enough interest to start one. You interest sounds like a great project for such a group.
Many thanks for the comment.

There is probably relatively little interest at present in the Western Isles for DNA based genealogy.

A project sounds like a really good idea. I think that most interest for such a venture would probably come from the descendants of emigrants resident in the US, Canada and elsewhere.
