Help finding marriage recrod

Question

I am searching on the marriage record of Joseph McClain and Mary Ann Fish. I don't know where they married exactly but I know they married maybe in Virginia, Tennessee, or North Carolina. They married about 1833. Any help would be appreciated.

"Pennsylvania Marriages, 1709-1940," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:V26C-8CV : 11 February 2018), Joseph Mcclain in entry for John W. Mcclain and Dora C. J. Galbraith, 12 Jan 1887; citing Huntingdon,Pennsylvania; FHL microfilm 900,593.

The above record from Family Search shows a John Mcclain getting married, but his parents are Joseph Mcclain and Mary Fish. John was married in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, so I would look for the family there. Family Search has a lot of wonderful records and is free.

Thank you for replying, familysearch is a fantastic website. I think that marriage record is a different Joseph McClain due to the fact it lists a birth year in 1889. I will look around more on the website.

Hi Christy, I know this was not exactly what you were looking for, however as Katrina has said it is a good place to start, considering the dates you gave are about and not exact, I would say it is a good idea to start from there and research around that. You may just find the link. Family's are known to use the same names in different generations. Also the link is not for the marriage of Joseph as you were hoping for, but John McClain, a possible Son going by the dates.

Christy, that record shows a birth date of 1866 for John McClain, who is probably the child of the Joseph and Mary you are looking for, so that would not be inconsistent with his parents having married about 1833.
