What flag to use for the British North American provinces before they became colonies?

As I noted below, there was no Province of Pennsylvania in 1635, so the status is correct...except that there was no USA then, either. So, ...from England to America.. or which actual colony he might have resided in. See article Pennsylvania 1630-1700 at UShistory.org, which states "In 1643, Governor Johan Printz arrived and built Fort Elfsborg and Fort New Gothenburg at Tinicum Island, nearby today’s Philadelphia airport. A small park with a statue to Printz commemorates the location. This marks the first permanent settlement by Europeans in Pennsylvania."

doh!  1635 is his birth date - migration in 1677.

so, question is, what flag did they use in 1677?

There was No Colony of Pennsylvania flag in 1635. Mostly, because the Province of Pennsylvania was not founded until 1685!

The book referenced in the link, The Provincial or Colonial Flag of Pennsylvania, published in 1894, states "...not one has been discovered entirely discovered up to this date..."  It goes on to relate that the earliest provincial flag was designed by Benjamin Franklin, in 1747.

I've lost my mind - I put his birth date - migrated to Penn in 1677 - I've amended the question.

It looks like the English Red Ensign flag was used in British North America while territory was a province or if it had not yet been incorporated into a province.  As each province/area evolved into colonies, different flags were adapted.  For now, it looks like this flag should be used:

Oh, dear. I guess this thread explains why this and other flags are appearing for no apparent reason on colonial American profiles.
I suppose that folks have any number of reasons for putting flags on profiles; my desire was to know which flag was the right flag for the profiles I was working on.
