Frustration over Patterson mayhem!

Grrrrr. I’ve got to start working on my already existing profiles to tighten them up and drop my Patterson research for a while.

Taking in all the great advice given to me here the last couple of days, I have decided to detach Gabriel Patterson from John and Sarah Keith Patterson with notes in Gabriel’s bio explaining my reasoning. I just want to slap Gabriel for not having any... and I mean any.... conclusive documentary evidence for his existence, not to mention being a son of John and Sarah. I really, really hated to do this, as it was a very good line to have, going back to Scotland and beyond, but I would be false to claim a descent just because I like having it.

Beyond that, even in the midst of my frustration, I want to thank all of you for doing your best to help me out. It wasn’t for naught. It did make me face up to the seriousness of documented sources here in WT. I may have to do this very thing with my Finley ancestry, too.

Back to it.....

Pip,

Just really enjoy your writing...

He could be a difficult one. Have you tried to contact the FindAGrave memorial manager to see where they got their info?

As to the Ancestry trees, just shakes head in wonder at the one who links him to a gravestone picture for a Spanish American war veteran...
Thanks, Kay. I think that’s where I’m headed next. Contacting the manager to see if they know something I don’t. Much appreciated!

I known what you mean.  It does seem that there is never any documentation for the line we are from.  How is that?  You can imagine our shock and despair when we went to get photo's of our however-many-great grandfather's headstone, only to see he was surrounded by not one, but two Clara's who obviously were not ours!  We were just like, What?  How could this happen?

Now, fast forward and we've found Clara's father, but he does not have parents.  Truly.  I tracked every male down and he doesn't fit anywhere.  I think he has an unwed mother.  The one I liked no longer fits.

Situations like those make me want to scream. But I’ve made mistakes, too, I did a cemetery survey for USGenWeb many years ago. Had a stone, male and female, same last name, and I made the assumption (you know what they say about that!) that they were husband and wife. Wrong! They were brother and sister. The survey got corrected by a relative of the two, so I don’t have that one hanging over me.
