New to genealogy; looking for direction

I’m a newbie to genealogy research and would appreciate a push in the right direction! My great, great grandfather, Thomas Earley, immigrated from Ireland, according to the older generations of my family. When he came over in the 1800s, apparently immigration records were kept at the state level. Mississippi has no online records extending that far back, and I don’t know his parents’ names or city of origin. What should my next step be?

Nikki, do you have a Family Search account. They are free. you can plug in what information you know there and maybe come up with clues on the whole family.        [https://www.familysearch.org]

Irish genealogy can be a challenge due to the political situation in Ireland for a long, long time.

Here are some sites that may be helpful:

https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/

https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Ireland_Genealogy

There books as well; search the online bookstores or your local public library.
