Marise, welcome to our community. We are glad to have you! In WikiTree, you’ll find tons of tools to help you build (and connect) your tree. 

Also, any, and I mean any, questions you have about the process or even about specific ancestors can be posted here. You’ll find a crowd of folks willing to take time out their trees to assist you. 

The help pages are there for a reason, from assisting you in creating great profiles to the workings of he site. Take advantage of them. This will help you to avoid making mistakes like the ones I made early on (that I’m now going back to fix and improve).
