Nissen Name Study Started Need Volunteers

Question

Anyone who wants to volunteer in the Nissen surname project and study come join us as we research the Nissen Surname’s Danish roots, history and meaning!

According to a search on wikitree for just that surname there are currently 281 profiles with that surname. It might be something you are planning anyway, but might I suggest separating them out at least by states of residence for the project? It might help you find duplicates and connections between the profiles. Other than that it looks great.

It definitely needs a lot of work sorting him out.

According to what is entered up above and not in the biography, he was born in Denmark, married in Winona County, Minnesota and died in Clark County, Washington. Based on that I would put him in a category for at least Denmark, a category for Minnesota, and a category for Washington. If I found any documents that claimed residence in other areas I could also add those. I find it also helps me identify areas to search for documents and other connections as well.

Just a thought.

If you had a specific ancestor that you were tracking for the known descendants you could do a free space page up with the goal of the page and make out a list. It is what I am doing with one of my Revolutionary War Patriot, Abiud FAIRCHILD. While researching his family I amassed over 600 pages of notes, document transcripts, census records, etc. so I wanted to try to get everything recorded with the people born before 1910 on wikitree. That was the reason for the list of descendants I made up - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Descendants_of_Abiud_FAIRCHILD_to_do_list not sure if that is ok on wikitree but with so many descendants and notes it was at least one way to keep it all straight. I am in the beginning stages of it, just putting individuals in and then seeing if they have profiles, but it gives you an idea. As you can see the person is identified if they have a profile it is linked to their listing which has a list of their birth, death, marriages and a children's list that then is expanded again in the next generation and so forth. The purpose of course is to see what profiles need to be created, linked, etc. Then putting in the notes I and my research buddies have amassed with proper citations and acknowledgements, of course. It is a big project to be sure, but I would rather have my work up than lost to time if something happened to me.

As you can see it is linked to the United States section of the study and the one name study lists for Massachusetts. It also has a link back to the main study page for those interested in the project.
