Hi Christine to add to John's answer here is the daughter's brith/baptism record.

Barbara Tullidaff Birt/Baptism certificate
                                                                                               Parents
03/02/1661 TULLIDAFF BARBARA    ROBERT TULLIDAFF/MARIE TAILER FR1705 (FR1705) F EDINBURGH EDINBURGH CITY CITY/MIDLOTHIAN 685/01 0060 0201

The site used to find the records was Scotland's People & the URL is

A quick tip they also provide a rescan of illegible documents and a translation of old Scots to modern as well, in case you need it.
All the best
Billy
Many thanks Billy - yes I have Robert's daughter and wife in Edinburgh, so I was anxious to get his parents as he was born in Aberdeen - there are two John Tullidaff's producing families simultaneously in Aberdeen.

Scotlands People told me last week that they cannot rescan these very old documents, and many of them are on film rather than document now, but they did help me to read one with a lot of interference on it.
Thank you John, that's good to know - I have that family already, so one more child to add.  Thank you for your help.

Hi Chris,

I'll have a look and see what I can make out with the document, although it may take me a bit of time and get back to you as soon as I can.

I can recommend a really good site specifically set up to help with translating old Scottish handwriting, which is  http://www.scottishhandwriting.com/

Thank you Billy!  I've transcribed 18th century and late 17th century documents for Scotlands Places but this beats me!
