problem with a merge [closed]

Question

A pair of duplicate fictitious profiles came up on the list of 311 Suggestions in need of data-doctoring. When I try to initiate a merge I get a window that says someone else has initiated the merge and to wait 5 minutes to try again if they do not complete it. I only ever get that same window, both yesterday and today. Is it because they're fictitious? They are clear duplicates, and both are orphans. I'd like to at least rid us of one of them. Any suggestions?

I reasked the question and with the help I received-- could then complete it

Goodman-1744 was yet another duplicate. The one that is stuck is 1739.

Its not because they are ficticious

It's something that happens now and then.
I think the tech people explain it as an effect of how the system is set up to avoid multiple users trying to edit the same profile at the same time - it's a bit oversensitive, is my interpretation.

Not sure what happened. I could complete the merge.

Usually removing the match entirely (switch the proposed merge to unmerged match or rejected match, and remove it) and re-proposing the merge does the trick. Works fine when the profile are orphaned or you're the manager, but at bit annoying if you've already waited 30 days to complete the merge.
