Only Three Tree Branches? Can DNA Tell?

Hi! I’m Déva, and I’m new here!

I have completed and posted my DNA results and GedCom. My Father’s Ancestry is not difficult - I claimed DAR Membership on his side years ago.

My mother is an enigma. I know that I am NOT a DNA match for RICHARD MUNSE, after whom she was named. (Hellon Richard Munse)

I am not a match for Munse.

Is it possible my biological grandfather is a relative of my grandmother? (Uncle, brother, cousin?)

The lot of them lived in the same house/next door, so it’s possible....

All Parents and GPatents are deceased (I am 62)

Can I see from my own DNA if I have 4 different grandparent families, or only three?

Thank you! Chasing shadows!

Deva, you ask if it was possible that your grandparents were related. I can tell you that in my case it wasn’t just possible, it was probable. So many of my families lived near each other for generations, I would have been been surprised it they hadn’t. They were second cousins once removed.

Thank you, Pip. I suspect it is possible my two grandparents may be related to one another. My mother carries the name of her mother’s husband (?) but I am not his genetic descendant...

Can my DNA tell me?
Oh, I see that you are a Caldwell and Morrison descendant from Mecklenburg County, NC. That’s where I was born and have deep roots, on the western side: Steele Creek, Paw Creek, and Hopewell. Maybe we connect. We’ll see. Happy hunting!
Indeed! I am DNA Certified Caldwell and Morrison! My Ancestral Family on my Dad’s side are all Steele Creek, Sharon, Charlotte NC..

It would be fun to find common relatives!
Deva, I’ve taken our discussion private so we can see if we’ve got some common families. Look for the email.

There's a tool you can use on Gedmatch called "Are My Parents Related" that might be able to shed some light on this for you.

Thank you Brittany!  I used that particular tool, and my parents are not related. What I am looking to determine is the identity of my maternal grandfather. I want to discover if my grandfather was related to my grandmother. What I need is a way to see if my grandparents on that side were related....A time machine would be helpful!
