Thanx John, your allways there to cheer everyone on, thank you!
Welcome to WikiTree, Bob!  You will love it here  As Shaun said, don't be surprised if you get overwhelmed at first (the rest of us are used to being overwhelmed).  There is so much to learn.  But, I love that I learn something every day on WikiTree.

Thanks for introducing yourself!  Wiki-on!

WELCOME to Wikitree Bob, We hope you enjoy your time with us, Wikitree can be a little difficult to get used to in the very early stages so try not to feel overwhelmed or get disappointed, if you are not sure of anything, check out the Wiki help. If you still don't succeed please don't hesitate to ask questions here on G2G, there are a whole bunch of friendly people here who are just too happy to help you out where they can, this is one big happy family, please feel at home!

Welcome, Bob! I am Steve Maynard (Wiki Tree Maynard-2184). My 6th great grandfather, Henry Maynard came to the Maryland Colony in 1701/02.  One of my quests is to discover the particulars of his English parentage / heritage.

All that is definitively known (by me, at least) is that Henry was a "Merchant of London" (from a self-description he included in a purchase deed of an estate in Anne Arundel, Co MD in 1702).  Many of his descendants assert that he was related to the Maynards of Easton Court, Essex -- a line of nobility in the 1600-1700s. But, I've not been able to substantiate those claims with "proof".

Should you find any connection to Henry, I'd love to share the story of his American descendants.

I assume your Haffenden family are from Sussex or Kent as I have helped one of my husband's relatives to trace one of her lines back to Haffenden. The surname got changed to Avender via Evenden.

I believe that Hovenden is another spelling variation; they are a large Kentish family.
