Is there a project a Jacka family in Cornwall project pre-1700?

I have been updating Jacka profiles based on Wills that I have been working on.  Each time I go to update a profile I get the following message

"If you are not already coordinating with a pre-1700 project, click here before proceeding (required). Thank you!"

I'm afraid I don't understand the message

I have spoken to the profile manager and have updated the Jacka profiles concerned.

The Jacka family are a bit of tangled mess so I have hopes it sorting some of them out into their correct families (at least one day).

Am I missing a step somewhere?

You could be a member of the England Project, which covers Cornwall.  Sign up here:

Or you could start a Jacka Name Study by signing up here:

Both are pre-1700 projects.

Can the one name project be limited to an area?

That is a one name project of Jacka's in Cornwall?

To make it more manageable.

I don't see why not.  You would still call it 'Jacka Name Study', but concentrate your efforts in Cornwall.  I did that with the Pellyne Name Study, and actually found that, since a lot of the Pellynes went to Devon, my Study is widening its horizons naturally! smiley

If you decide to set up this name sudy, let me know. I have a lot of Jacka/Jaco's in my tree. Mostly from Paul parish, but I think they likely originated in neighboring St. Buryan.
I would be interested in doing a one name study, but I worry about the time commitment and what my responsibilities would be for the project as a whole.  Setting up the pages is one thing, managing the project is another.

I'm happy to take the lead but don't what sink into a morass of work when I'm still trying to construct my personal tree (I hope that makes sense).

Perhaps someone could outline the scope of work once a study is underway, or at least give an idea of what might be involved as I assume each project is different.
The 'time commitment' is entirely down to you.  Nobody is going to jump on you from a great height and ask why you haven't done 30 hours this week on your Name Study.

You are right in what you say about each study being different, and it depends on your goals.  You may want to study migration routes, or naming patterns, or how many families had twelve children - anything, really.

Take a look at my Pellyne Name Study (which I last touched in January!)
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Pellyne_Name_Study

Or a look at my Stanton Name Study (which I last touched in May)
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Stanton_Name_Study

just to give you an idea.

Ok

I have decided to go ahead and set up a one name study.

I've yet to work out how to notify those in charge of such things but I've set up the page which is a start.  It can be found at Jacka Name Study

Off to work now so hopefully, I can pay a bit of attention to what needs to be done when I get back.  Now to work out to invite Dave.

That's for the encouragement Ross.

Cheers Sandra

My JACKAs were from the districts of Perranzabuloe & Redruth from 1627 to 1790; earliest marriage 1615 in Redruth

Hi Carole,

Are these older Jackas that you've alluded to already on WikiTree? Presumably being so early they'd fall in the Category of Jacka Brick Walls, Another place to look might be the subcategories for Jacka name study of Perranzabuloe, Jacka Name Study and Redruth, Jacka Name Study

It would be good to include me if we've missed them completely.  Let me know if I can help.

Cheers Sandra
