For years, since Dad passed, I have tried to figure this one out.  Finally, thanks to WikiTree, FamilySearch, and Find A Grave, it is coming together.  Bert Addison Willingham and my Grandfather Ratus Granville Willingham are first cousins through their mothers, Maggie Mays & Mollie Mays.  I'm still working on the Willingham connection.  Thank you to WikiTree & it's partner sites.
Awesome, job piecing this together!
Love the photo! So much going on. Buildings, Tree without leaves, Leaning Telegraph or Elect poles, Smoke stacks, Water tower for locomotive RR tracks And Bert sitting on a chair with his hit off to one side
One question, why is he sitting on a chair near RR tracks
Thanks for sharing!

This is a really interesting pic, Kenneth. Bet I know why the chair is not in front of the house/building behind the photographer. The afternoon or early morning sun would have put him in the shade. This direction, he’s facing the sun.

Love the rakish lay of his hat.

Congrats on your discovery. It’s always a very satisfying feeling.

Thank you Kennith for sharing this wonderful photo of Bert, he looks quite elegant sitting out there with his hat tipped to one side and as John mentioned all the detail in the background, yes a very busy picture with a lot of interesting detail.

Without even looking to confirm, I am guessing that this picture was taken in Henderson, Kentucky.  I will check before my final post, but I will not change what I have typed.

What a great picture.  This could have been taken in my hometown, Momence, Illinois.

The water tower, electrical lines and railroad tracks were all familiar sights from my childhood days.

Always the little houses that were built next to the tracks, but Momence was lacking something that Henderson had - Bert Willingham sitting next to the tracks.

He certainly looks dressed in his Sunday best.  Is he waiting for your mom to go to church?  Did they just get home from church and he is resting before going into the house?  Was it hot out, and it was cooler outside than inside? Or . . . was there a little spat between your mom and dad and he went outside to cool off?

Whatever it was, this is a great picture. Love the way his hat is tilted, his legs are crossed, and his has that relaxed air about him.

Thanks so much for sharing your dad with us.

God Bless.

What seems to be a water tower might be a Heinz 57 ketchup tower.
