just wondering if anyone in leadership has thought of having regional get-together of WikiTree members. Not the formal kind where it cost $1,693.87 to attend.

You should take the lead and organize one in your region :D
Well, now, maybe I will! Gimme some time to figure this out!
Well said Eowyn!

I would love to do something like that but due to being disabled I can't travel too terribly far from home :-)

Pip with enough planning time I can make it to most of Georgia, all of Alabama, and the northern part of Florida.  Ohh what I would give to go to the beach right now for some peace and quiet! :-)

What? And no WikiTree at the beach?

Here’s what we do. We find a place as centrally located as we can for, say, the southeast. Find someone with a large house with parking. Everybody bring food. A day trip so no hotels. (We have an extra bedroom for a possible overnighter someone with a long drive, and we’re only 3 miles from mom’s if the next paragraph is a possibility.)

How about Brevard? Say, September/October. Mom has a big house (I mean big), parking, good kitchen. Open spaces. Cool in the mountains. Fall leaf-change in October. Etc, etc. (The reason I’m saying mom’s house is that I’ve done this before for a genealogy get-together for folks with Transylvania County, NC, connections, and she’s a great hostess. Furtherest attendee was from Alabama.) Everybody bring one momento to share a story about.

What’d y’all think? (Eowyn did this to me!!)

Sounds AWFULLY tempting, even though I'm about 300 miles from there and more than half of it is through the Nantahela forest, which would be somewhat slow going.  I also have a husband still recovering from a cardiac arrest in January and quadruple bypass in April, so that would probably keep me/us from coming.
Well I could give you a run for travelling far to get there, while also grabbing the chance for a visit with my relative who lives near Brevard.

Need more than a couple of months advance notice, though, to arrange travel and time off from work.  The NC mountains area is beautiful that time of year.

How's the wifi at your mom's big house?
WiFi’s got a booster, for whole house coverage. We’d definitely have to plan months in advance. Working on it!
It sure would be tempting to take the RV to the mountains for a bit in the fall.
