If the profiles are not Open, and you would like to edit them, then yes you will need to be added to the trusted list for each profile. Whether you need to make a request to be added, for each profile will depend on the profile manager. I usually add a person to all profiles they are related to, but not sure if others do this also.

No. You only need trusted to change certain things or if the profile is not fully open. If the profile has an Edit tab, then you can modifiy the Biography sections and dates. You can't change LNAB (Last Name At Birth). Usually you ask the Profile Manager if you can modify/update the profile and tell them what you want to do and it isn't a problem. If no one responds in a timely manner (more than a week, assuming you private messaged them) then make the changes.

The Trusted List is WikiTree's Watchlist. Without it, you won't be notified of any changes that you'd like to monitor (except through more generic surname tags).

But the Trusted list also allows more access to otherwise private profiles, and allows one to change the Last Name at Birth (if necessary).

But its difficult to add profiles to your Watchlist, because you have to ask permission to be added to the Trusted List, and those requests often go unnoticed or unanswered (for various reasons).

Otherwise, as already mentioned, its not necessary to be on the Trusted List in order to make changes and updates to open privacy profiles.
