Did William Pannill of Virginia collect an 1812 Pension in South Carolina?

+4 votes

Hello, friendly WikiTreers!

I received a PM about William Pannill because I had adopted an unsourced profile of his spouse Lucinda Dove.  I have done no research on these profiles, and they are not in my family, and I'm afraid I can't help the researcher very much.  So I'm looking for help here.

My correspondent, a descendant of William Morton Pannell and Lucinda Dove, does not believe that Lucinda Dove's spouse is the son of Sarah Bayley of Virginia, so a merge of the two William Pannells (Pannell-118 and Pannell-389) would not be appropriate without further research.

It is also unclear from his profile whether the William Pannell collecting a War of 1812 Pension is either the son of Sarah Bayley or the spouse of Lucinda Dove.  Possibly the details of more than one man have been conflated?

I'm calling for help from any Pannell/Pannill family researchers, any researchers familiar with 18th century land and estate records from Virginia, and researchers familiar with military pension records to help us figure out how many individuals are represented by the available primary sources, which duplicates should be merged, and how to connect the profiles in their proper relationships to each other.

Thanks in advance!

Edit:  Added DNA tag.  Please see this thread on the family group:

Okay.  Do the pension records provide any information about his parents, his age, or his spouse?  I'm not at all familiar with what to expect in them.
I have located a few of these pension records, does not list Parents.

Check North Carolina 1850 Census, see if he is listed,

William Pannill/Pannell, son of Sarah Bayley is not the husband of Lucinda Dove.  William Pannell married to Lucinda Dove did not receive a pension from the War 1812.  It appears he died in 1812 at 72 years old.  His mother was Sally Ann Morton.  This is proved by DNA.

Deborah, could you explain the DNA evidence that supports Sally Ann Morton as the mother and not Sarah Bayley?
