The Mystery of Josephine Cadran

Hail,

I have a bit of a puzzle here. I am trying to find the birth and death of Josephine Cadron/Cadran/Cadrin. Sources haven't been helpful. But, let me share what I do know:

1. She was apparently born circa Jun 1862 as per the  1880 census. Problem is her husband's naturalization paper says she was born in North Adams, Mass. Here it says "Canada".

2. In the 1900 and 1910 censuses she is listed as being in the home of her husband, Noah.

3. She's listed on her mother's Find a Grave which includes the obituary.

I have tried every spelling I could think of for Robidoux. I can't seem to find anything. Can someone help me out? Thanks in advance!

Thanks. Anything would be good. I have a feeling she passed away some time before 1920 as I can't find either of these two (Josephine and Noah) in later censuses. Just the kids.

The parents, Pierre and Eulalie are covered. I have their births and deaths. It's the kids I'm having trouble info on.

Pierre: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Cadron-10

Eulalie: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bibeau-231

Here's Zoé: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Cadron-15
Lucy: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Cadron-9

I recommend focusing your research efforts on Montréal.  In line with what Wayne found, there's an entry on BMS 2000 (subscription required) showing that she was born on 23 August 1868 and was baptized the following day at Saint-Enfant-Jésus parish.  The other Zoé Malvina you found was likely an older sister who died in childhood.

The Zoé I found or the Zoé Wayne found? The Zoé I found didn't die in childhood.

Here's her find a grave: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/79958095/zoe-malvina-burt

She's mentioned in her mother's Obit on this Find a Grave:

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/79728006/marie-lucie-cardran

So is it the Zoe who was born 23 August 1868 the one who married Mr. Burt and lived in NYC? I'm a little lost.
The profile you link to says that she was born in 1857 and died in 1925.  The Zoe Malvina born in 1857 is an older sister.  The one who died in 1925 was born in 1868.
Okay. Thanks, man. It gets confusing with similar names.
Well, I would imagine that the Zoé Malvina you found died in childhood, since they recycled the name 11 years later.  As Danielle remarks below, the period 1860 onward has less indexing available for baptisms and burials, so sometimes you can't confirm directly that the person died.  The FindAGrave profile you link to clearly has a stone saying 1868-1925, providing further evidence that the Zoé Malvina that made it to adulthood was born in 1868.
Gotcha. Making the edits now on Familysearch. That's what got me confused. The grave also had me going for a minute, too.

Changes made. Thanks for catching that, Greg!
Looks like I found evidence of a daughter named Matilda:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MP14-NT8

She was born circa 1896 3 years before they were married. Huh....

Bet it was after. Censuses like to round dates...

Do you think this is her in 1930? She does have a son Noah and the age is right.

"United States Census, 1930," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XQLY-YVH : accessed 26 June 2018), Josephine Rabidoux in household of Noah J Rabidoux, Peabody, Essex, Massachusetts, United States; citing enumeration district (ED) ED 227, sheet 17B, line 100, family 413, NARA microfilm publication T626 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, 2002), roll 902; FHL microfilm 2,340,637.

I believe so. She did have a son named Noah like you said. And it looks like Noah senior was passed away by that point.

The weird thing is that Mass and Canada seem to be interchangeable on the censuses.
My experience with census data is that places of birth sometimes change from decade to decade. On a related note (genealogy pun unintended), I always try to look at the source document. Translations often have errors which are obvious when you look at the document or a picture of it.

Well, with those parents, the name gets written mostly Cadran.  Her parents married on 16 Jan 1854 in Yamaska, her first 2 siblings are baptized in St-François-du-Lac (Luce Cadran in 1855, Zoé Malvina Cadran in 1857), then Michel Cadran is baptized in Yamaska in 1859.  Records cut off for the family at that point.

Either they moved from the area or we are hitting the time at which indexing is not yet on line for baptisms.  Considering the baptism of Michel was day after birth, and St-François-du-Lac is not that close to Yamaska, I would search in Yamaska records.  Pierre Cadran on his marriage record had his parents listed as residents of Yamaska.

The last name throws me off quite a bit. I've seen it as Cadron, Cadran, Cardran (It's Cardran on Pierre's gravestone. I've seen it.)

Here's what I think may have happened. They were living in Yamaska up until that point in 1859. They moved somewhere else and then moved to Haverhill where they appear in the 1880 census living in the Legaults' house with their daughter, Lucy. By 1900 they were out of there. Antoine Legault passed away the following year. They scattered all over the Merrimack Valley. Pierre and Eulalie lived out the rest of their lives in Haverhill.

Those records you mentioned would be a decent place to start. I just wonder why Josephine was listed as being born in Mass and in Canada in two different censuses.
maybe born on the border?  lol, if she was a baby when her parents moved, she might not even know for sure.
That is entirely possible. In the 1880 census she was 19 and living with her brother in law's family. You need to see this census. So many people in ONE house:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MH6Z-TVD?from=lynx1&treeref=9J86-CRW

Lucy (My ancestor) was six. She was 19. Zoe moved out of the house. She might have been a young kid when they moved. It's a tough call. I can't find her marriage to Noah Robidoux. We know they got married and had a BUNCH of kids.

This is one tough puzzle.

I don't see her in the 1861 index page for Saint-Michel-d'Yamaska:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QSQ-G993-Z9RW?i=371&wc=9RLD-FMS%3A21947601%2C21947602%2C24436201&cc=1321742

Not in 1862 either:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L993-Z9Y3?i=374&wc=9RLD-FMS%3A21947601%2C21947602%2C24436201&cc=1321742

Marie Olivine Cadron was born August 4, 1863, and baptized August 9, 1863, at Saint-Michel-d'Yamaska. She was the daughter of Noël Cadron and Marie Eulalie Bibeau:

"Québec, registres paroissiaux catholiques, 1621-1979," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QSQ-G993-ZQV9?cc=1321742&wc=9RLD-GP8%3A21947601%2C21947602%2C23132303 : 16 July 2014), Saint-Michel-d'Yamaska > Saint-Michel-d'Yamaska > Baptêmes, mariages, sépultures 1845-1865 > image 502 of 559; Archives Nationales du Quebec (National Archives of Quebec), Montreal.

It is weird how Noel, Pierre's father, married a lady with the same name as Pierre's wife and still somehow be unrelated. That threw me off when I saw it on Familysearch. A Bibeau family researcher made sure I had the right Eulalie attached to Pierre. It was slightly confusing. Here she is here:

https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LYBJ-DF1?1=1&parents=L6RF-RJ2_LT8V-WJX

That's Noel's daughter with a Eulalie. Not Pierre's.

So, do you think both Zoe and Josephine were born in Haverhill even though the censuses say otherwise? I haven't seen them in the 1870 census. Just bam. There they are in the 1880 living with the Legaults. I wish the address was shown. I'd have loved to have seen the place on Google Maps.
I did wonder about the name Noël! Thanks for clarifying. Adding some of the children now - my flight is delayed three hours. :(
No problem. I just added Henrietta. Sucks about the flight. Ouch.... =(

The two Eulalies had the same parents, Jean Baptiste Bibeau and Thérèse Laroche.

The first Marie Eulalie was born March 16, 1818, and baptized March 17, 1818, at Saint-François-du-Lac:

The second Eulalie was born and baptized February 28, 1830, also at Saint-François-du-Lac:

Changed the name and added a spiffy picture of her and her husband, Noah. This made my 4th cousin very happy. =D Happy to help in any way. I did message the lady who put it up on Familysearch. Here's hoping she replies. She only put it up last year or so. *crosses fingers and toes*

Update: I checked Myheritage trees and I found that she may have died in 1930 in Peabody. I couldn't get a look at the person's tree but it's a place to start. 1930 was the last time she was in the census. Can someone help me verify this?
