Privacy rules are for privacy not control

"Privacy rules are for privacy, not control". Then why  do I feel controlled?

Surly If I give my self permission to be public then that is my choice and my right and no law can stop me from being open to the public against my will as I am also open on various public forums by choice. An by this I don't mean the profiles that I manage, but my own profile. Why can't I set my profile to public privacy? Sure I am living, but that doesn't mean someone else has the right to decide weather I should be seen or not? I'm not afraid of the boogyman and I have nothing to hide, so is there something that can be done about this?

Surly at the end of the day we do not want to take away freedom of choice? I would very much like to hear how you feel about me wanting to have my profile public or not and why?

I expect that option will be available in the future after Wikitree have time to figure out how to make it a technically feasible option. Other companies did more advance preparation for GDPR and are therefore able to offer more advanced privacy options.
Thank you for that Lynda, much appreciated.
Just my thoughts Shaun. You will hopefully get a better answer from the Wikitree team.
Thanx Lynda

Shaun, you do have the option of choosing to have your biography and family tree public, and you appear to have taken advantage of that.  You can reveal whatever you wish in the bio.  I think the only thing left on your profile that's not public is data about your still-living siblings and children.  I'm not part of the "team" and am not privy to all the rationale behind the privacy rules, but I'd guess the philosophy is that you do not necessarily have the right to publicize whatever data you wish about other living people.

Thank you Dennis, yes you right I don't want to reveal the data of other profiles or my family within my profile, that would not be ethical.

I was however talking about my personal profile, the next privacy level is public profile, although it clearly states "Not recomended for living profiles", it does not say that it is not allowed!

So here's the problem, it is greyed out and cannot be selected. If it is not allowed as a selection for a personal profile then it should state that as a fact and maybe give a reason.
Both the Privacy tab on my profile and the description of the levels in the Help file say that Public and Open are not an option for living people.  You may be seeing language elsewhere that needs an update.
