Just came across this blog, as some of the records involve Columbus County NC and other areas nearby.  This person has loads of genealogical historical data too many family names to list here..but if you are missing anyone in lines that may involve NC Columbus County and other locations nearby, you may want to check out this site.  Also the Historical  may want to look as well, I believe I saw listings of some soldiers, civil war maybe.. can't remember, i went thru some random options listed quickly there is also a NATIVE AMERICAN section- https://ncfpc.net/category/native-american/, also Mulatto section, Slaves, and soo much more , main catagories - https://ncfpc.net/

This was a tough record to include as a manager. At first, I discounted the raw information until I found the passport application. The passport application had a line through certain words like the receiver of the application wanted it known the applicant was not white. One track had a line put through a word to make the document suggest Major was a servant. Other lines indicate he was not considered a citizen. Then this document showed Major Thompson on line 15 as a freed slave.
