George Albert Smith is an SSAR member, a descendant of Richard Lyman, Orderly Sergeant under Gen. Putnam.  National Number 11638 belongs to George (a decendant) or Richard Lyman, the ancestor?  Hoe do I record this?

You will get a better response if you add the 1776 tag to your question or ask here https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/tag/1776.

One of my ancestors has 2 SSAR profiles, so you can see it done twice here:  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bourne-1436

Namely for yours:

{{NSSAR Patriot Ancestor

 | sar-number = P-11638

  | rank =Sergeant

 }}

Actually, after looking it up, Richard Lyman's would be 239988 or 239987.  So it would look like this on his profile:

{{NSSAR Patriot Ancestor

 | sar-number = P-239988

  | rank =Sergeant

 }}

But, because neither of those exactly matches up with facts in the given profile...it is certainly in question either way.

http://sarpatriots.sar.org/patriot/display/239987 shows 1757-1802 with no known family

http://sarpatriots.sar.org/patriot/display/239988 shows 1762-1838 with spouse Mehitable and rank of Sergeant

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Lyman-611 shows 1757-Unknown with spouse unknown and child Clarissa

But the 239987 is the correct one - it just doesn't have all of its information sourced yet.

There is a plethora of documentation available that states he was born 13 Aug 1757, died 8 Jun 1802, and served as a Sergeant.  He was married to Philomela Loomis on 17 Dec 1781 in Lebanon-Goshen, New London, Connecticut, United States, and they had a daughter, Clarissa.

I was also able to locate your noted SAR membership application where George Albert Smith, Jr. stated most of the above yes

Thanks so much.  I got lost in SSAR index land, I was looking for George Smith - so many of them. I added wife and SSAR tag to Mr. Lyman.
Brian, isn't a template for descendants of Revo war ancestors.

I used this category:  [[Category: Sons of the American Revolution]]
