Is this a joke?

Can this profile have been created in good faith?

I edited this to remove the link to the profile-- maybe I shouldn't have, but I felt like a tattle-tale, even though I barely scratched the surface of what is wrong here. I realize I should contact the manager directly. But he's been a member since 2011-- much longer than I-- and what I see when looking at his profiles-- over 5000 contributions, not one of which is a source, as far as I've seen-- requires a diplomacy that escapes me. Even just adding the unsourced template to all of these makes me unhappy.

The entire family, from an import in Jun 2011 shares the same give name and surname. Perhaps these should be recycled?

It certainly would be difficult to reconstruct them from the dates, which in that timeframe must be approximate.

I asked for them to be recycled some time in the beginning of this year. There was a "maybe" response from Eowyn or Abby. (Can't find the G2G thread now).

It was almost certainly created in good faith ... the culprit is bad tech!  Apparently an early gedcom did not make it through the import process very well seven years ago.  Whether it was the result of something wrong with the gedcom file creation at another site or something wrong with the import processing interpretation of the gedcom file content is anybody's guess ... but the result sure speaks volumes, doesn't it?

A successful version of the same tree was later imported by the same manager. I have been able to match and merge a few of the unknowns into their proper version by matching birth-death data. It has been a slow process, waiting for 30-day default approvals, feels kinda futile.
Yikes, there's a whole project here. Seems to me the pm should be cleaning this up before he continues creating more. unsourced. profiles.

The PM is an active member, if I were you I would try to contact him. I have made that a standard procedure when I am working on profiles, and it has served me well.

Thank-you Mr. Pip.

Good luck! smiley
