If a person died in 1941 I should be able to edit it? Do I have to ask to be put on the Trusted List for the whole family?

You won't be able to edit it if it is green-locked.  You will have to do as you have done, ask to be put on the Trusted List, and each profile is an individual, so you will have to ask for each individual.  Unless, of course, you come to some agreement with the Profile Manager.
