Who is John Roberts?

Hey all, I'm looking for info on a John Roberts (not the one of SCOTUS fame). He appears to have been born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on March 14, 1820 and married a Sarah Ann Hendricks (b. Feb 07, 1832) on June 25, 1854, also in Lancaster. They had at least 6 children, including one, Warren, who was the Auditor General for the State of Pennsylvania from 1937-41.

I'm having trouble finding anything on either John or Sarah prior to this though. The 1900 census suggests his mother was born in Wales and father in PA, but I've had no luck tracking them down.

Does anyone have any insight into either of them, or this particular Roberts line?

Hi, This may not help either but i'm also researching Roberts. The line i'm looking at is Pierre Robert. Came from Switzerland from France to Charleston and set up Hugenot settlement. 1700's some Robert 's changed to Roberts. But i haven't been able to connect to my Roberts either which is William John. I believe his father name is John.. John is Jean in french. They were perscuted in France and moved to other countries like Wales ect. You might check religion and also Pierre came in 1600's plenty of time to spread out.

Donna Roberts
I haven't heard anywhere in my family history that we have French Hugenot ancestry, but that may well be a link worth exploring if they passed through Wales. I think from what I understand, they were Lutherans, at least once here in the States.

This is probably of little help, but I may have found the 1860 census.  The ages are off a little for John and Sarah, but right for William and Albert (or Abbert as the census has it).  This also highlights the possibility that there is a Welsh connection, or that the reference to Wales could be to North Wales, PA.   Here's the record: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MX5G-NFS

That's actually very helpful, thanks! Every little bit that helps me get closer to figuring out where they come from is appreciated.
