Problems with two Edward Lays, b. 1683 Connecticut

There are two profiles for Edward Lay b. 25 May 1683 in New London County, Connecticut, Lay-52 and Lay-298. Both Edwards include birth info, the same first wife and death in same year at same location. Both are sons of a John Lay, but the fathers were born 20 years apart and have different wives. The other wives of Edward Lay don't match up, nor do the children. One Edward Lay profile has several sources, while the other only has FindAGrave as a source and doesn't even follow that. It is possible that the two profiles have generations mixed up.

Does anyone have expertise in the Lay family? Can you help?

John Lay-52 if you look at his bio, it says he died about 1723, because Sarah Marvin remarried. So the death date and the gravestone and the birth circa 1783 are all wrong for this John.

John Lay-52's father was John  Lay-439 (the younger John not John the "drummer"), son of the immigrant. John Lay-439's profile says his son John Lay-52 was born 1692 not 1683.

Assuming we can trust what's on the profiles.

According to the bios Sarah Lee was the wife of John Lay-298.
