The 1880 U.S, Census record for the Cleveland, OH household of my 2nd great grandfather, James Fowkes Armstrong (1840-1897), includes a 15-yr old cousin, Mary Crawford, who was born in Ohio from a Scottish father and Indiana-born mother. My 2nd great grandmother, Anna Marian Kirkpatrick (1845-1911, is related to the Crawford’s through her mother Margaret Crawford (1816-1915) from Glasgow, Scotland who left Glasgow for North Port Stanley, Ontario in 1842 with her husband, John Kirkpatrick (1819-1869). Margaret’s Crawford family had largely emigrated to Quebec from the 1820s-1830s. She may have been the last, but went to Ontario before crossing Lake Erie and settling in Cleveland, Ohio in 1843. Some of Margaret’s Scottish-born siblings and their children ultimately left Quebec for the U.S., and I suspect this Mary Crawford from the 1880 Armstrong household is a cousin to Anna Kirkpatrick Armstrong through one of these Crawford relations. However, I have not managed to find out any more about this Mary Crawford other than what I’ve included above. Does anyone know more? Thanks
