When does pre-1500s certification kick in?

So, does pre-1500s certification kick in based on the birthdate? Say, if someone was born in 1599, does working on that profile now require the certification? Just wondering what the cutoff was for that. (I guess the same question could be asked about pre-1700s certification.) Thanks!

My understanding is that the cut-off is driven by the birth date.

Correct except for the qualifying dates. Pre-1500 means born 1499 and earlier, just as pre-1700 is based on being born 1699 and earlier.

Birth or death (and probably marriage) in 1499 or earlier will trigger it.

An adult with an unknown birth date and a death date in 1501 will be considered pre-1700.

Some people have a tendency to put 1500 for profiles. It can be quite annoying. I realize pre 1500 certification is a long process and requires patience. But we do end up with many duplicates.
