Merge problems, both records still visible in some screens.

Dollas-4 and Dallas-521 still show as individual profiles under the parent's profiles after merging. Also causing spurious "Unconnected" listing.

Also happening in other merges:-

Grutzmacher-4 and Grutzmacher-30 these records actually have an accented 'u' character (umlaut) and there are also some weird errors with the formatting of the accented character in some screens and strangely sometimes shown as Y with an umlaut on buttons.

There appear to be at least two distinct choices for the character 'u' with umlaut and it's giving grief when importing via GEDCOM. Character looks fine in the source website and GEDCOM file, but seems to be corrupted somehow on import to WikiTree. Surname gets truncated to "Gr".

Are these the Grutzmacher profiles that you reference:ützmacher-4ützmacher-30

Some of our tekkie members will have to explain why the umlaut won't display correctly when the URL is copied/pasted!

Yes, those records are examples, but I suspect other Grutzmachers linked to them may also be suffering the same issue.

I'm a software programmer and I know the headaches in handling non-English accented characters. It's actually nice to see a system that at least tries to handle them. I think an awful lot just give up and refuse to handle anything other than "standard" english a-z.

The "ghost" profile is a commonly occurring problem at WikiTree, Chris. A merged-away profile hangs in the system as its own sibling.

I don't know if the problem clears on its own after some time, but it can be fixed by detaching the "ghost" profile from its parents, spouse, and children.

Fixing the problem on the parent's profiles is simple enough, since there are only 2 parents involved. But if several children and/or multiple spouses are attached, fixing all the attachments could take a good bit of time.

I'll work on the Dollas/Dallas family issue, but someone else may have to work on the Grutzmacher problems. Those may require some expertise in non-English alphabets.

I think I have successfully exorcised the Dollas family "ghost."

Let me know if I missed anyone!

edit: adding link to profile:

Thanks, looks much better now, I'll bear the tip in mind if I find any other ghosts lurking..
