I thought I was "far away" from ever finding out anything about my ancestors. Everywhere I turned I hit a brick wall.
Oh, my husband's ancestor's were so easy to find. Like picking apples off of the tree in your backyard. Everyone in town is related to him.
Not so with me. Although I was born and raised in our little town, and my grandparents were raised in a little farm town just six miles away, I couldn't find anything.
But being patient finally paid off. Just adding one little letter to the name, and all of a sudden, I started finding all the information I needed.
This past weekend, I found my second great-grandparents, pictures and his will.
Researching, diggings and getting your hands dirty really does pay off.
Things aren't as far away as you think.
My second-great grandparents.
Herman and Sophia Ohlenkamp Junker.
