Who is her father? [closed]

I recently created Dora Hannah Auer. In trying to find more sources on Family Search, I entered her name. The first record that shows up is her birth/christening record, with her father Conrad and mother Hannah. The second record is the 1900 census, which shows the same birth month/year, but her parents are listed as Melchior and Alice. Melchior is Conrad's father.

Which is the correct record to cite for Dora?

It sounds as though she may have been living with her grandparents in 1900. I would look to see what happened to Conrad and Hannah. If you can find death records for them before 1900 then the census record would make sense, but just have the wrong relationship noted.
I didn't think of that. But I think you are correct. Her mother, Hannah, died less than a month after she (Dora) was born. The 1900 census has Conrad living with two daughters, in their twenties. Thanks!
Hi Susan,

I would contend that the Birth/Christening record is mostly correct. Census Records where only as good as the person taking the census report and the integrity of the person giving the information.
Now I see that the "Melchior" in the 1900 census was her uncle.
