You will have to provide more information if you want someone to help you. Is your problem with the download from your tree software or after you have loaded the file to Wikitree?
When I try to upload the gedcom I get a response saying the "gedcom appears to be empty".   There are 398 kbs in properties for the file, What can I do?
Judith, it is very possible that the GEDCOm is improperly formatted or corrupted. Which software did you download it from?
You're still a guest!
Thank you for your reply.  I have tried both a gedcom downloaded from AND one from my Familytreemaker program. The software is synced to Could that be the problem? I ran into the same problem in the past when trying to upload a different family gedcom. Can't remember how I finally got it to work!
I don’t think you will be able to make any progress with the gedcom until you complete the membership process.

Judith, You need to become a full member of Wikitree to upload a gedcom. As Vincent has pointed out you are still just a guest member. I will tag your question to the Greeters so that someone can help you to complete the membership process.

Hi Judith,

Here is the steps to volunteer.

you'll see a form on your Navigation Home Page that invites you to volunteer to become a full member. Volunteering means that you want to collaborate on our shared family tree and plan to abide by our Honor Code.

The volunteer form invites you to add one or more topic tags for surnames, locations, or projects that interest you, and to comment on your interest. These comments are a way for you to introduce yourself to other WikiTreers who share the same genealogical interests.

Don't fret too much about picking the right tags. You could just enter a surname or two. The tags can be edited at any time.

Also don't worry too much about the comments explaining your interest. If you're new to genealogy, for example, you can just say that. It's good to say that you're interested in collaborating with other genealogists, since that's what WikiTree is all about.

Tag comments appear for others who are following the tag, on your profile, and on the feed of new volunteers that's monitored by WikiTree "Greeters" — friendly members who have taken it upon themselves to welcome others.

A Greeter will usually confirm you soon after you volunteer. You can then sign the Honor Code and contribute as a full member of our community. (Thank you!)

When you have done this you can either send me a message or wait for another Greeter to confirm your membership.

Happy to have you aboard!!

Hi Judith,

I took a look at your current GEDCOM file and see that it has records in it now and that you have been reviewing them. Once you follow the instructions that Misty provided in her answer above, one of the Greeters will confirm your membership. At that point, you will be able to do more than just your GEDCOM.

Debi, and all

Sorry to have involved so many people in my problem.  I haven't been clear.  Gedcom 118124 is mine and I work on it on Wikitree. It is of my step-children's family. Now I am trying to to  upload a gedcom of my own personal family of another name. That is where I get the error message telling me the gedcom is empty, and there may be an error in the filename. Should .ged be .GED in capitals?  Or is my use of numerals in the filename a problem?  I am at a loss

No worries, Judith, that's what we are here for. All numbers in the file and and ged as caps or lower case shouldn't make a difference.

I'm going to send a private message because I need to ask a couple of questions for which you may prefer the answers to be private.
