I am trying to find more information of Wylie Ball and Mary Ball.

Mary's full name at birth was Mary Adeline Elder

Wylie was born c. 1832-06-02 and died c. 1911-12-01

They had at least one child Francis "Frank" Marion Ball (my great grandfather) born c. 1873-05-02 and died 1927-03-19.

I have never been able to find any information beyond my great great grandparents and do not know the birth date or death date of Mary, nor do I know if they had any other children than Frank.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Wylie and Mary in Union, Perry, Indiana 1880, with children James, Charles, Marion, Mary, and Eddie.

"United States Census, 1880," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MHS3-WG7 : 19 August 2017), Marion Ball in household of Wiley Ball, Union, Perry, Indiana, United States; citing enumeration district ED 32, sheet 29C, NARA microfilm publication T9 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.), roll 0304; FHL microfilm 1,254,304.

It says Wylie was born in Virginia, as opposed to Frank's census records that say Pennsylvania or Ohio.

Same family, same place, 1870 (only James was born as yet).

"United States Census, 1870," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MX6P-NJ3 : 12 April 2016), Wilie Ball, Indiana, United States; citing p. 4, family 25, NARA microfilm publication M593 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.); FHL microfilm 545,849.

This one says Wylie was born in Pennsylvania.

Wiley and Mary marriage, April 1864, Perry County, Indiana.

"Indiana Marriages, 1811-2007," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:K8BG-P71 : 10 December 2017), Wiley Ball and Mary A Elder, 24 Apr 1864; citing Perry, Indiana, United States, various county clerk offices, Indiana; FHL microfilm 549,418.

Marriage of George E (Eddie?) Ball, 12 Apr 1915.  Wylie's name might have been Jesse Wylie Ball.

"Indiana Marriages, 1811-2007," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:K8BP-2WV : 10 December 2017), Jesse W Ball in entry for George E Ball and Andia Belle Kellems, 12 Apr 1915; citing Perry, Indiana, United States, various county clerk offices, Indiana; FHL microfilm 1,377,756.

At Ancestry, a user posted an image of his death certificate:  J W Ball, Mosleyville (?), Breckenridge County, Kentucky, 1 Dec 1911.  79 yr, 5 mo, 29 days.  Born Ohio.  Father Wesley Ball, mother Lydia Mitchell.  Informant G E Ball.  Birthplaces of father and mother, GE Ball did not know.

Thanks, that helps a lot.  I found references to both Virginia and Pennsylvania in the past and didn't know if they were the same person or not.

I know that he lived in Perry County, Indiana for a while so it sounds like these are all the same person and it is just a case of records note being 100% reliable from back then.

Thanks.
You're welcome, Carson, and thanks for the star!

I feel confident that these are all the same people.  Since George E Ball was a constant in Wylie's life, I would want to confirm that George E was the Eddie in the 1880 Census.  The ages match, so I think a record showing full middle name Edward/Edmond/Edgar, etc, would nail it down.  From there I would start looking into the Elder family, and then Frank's siblings and Wylie's siblings.  Have fun!

Well, after reading all that stuff you dug up out of the genealogy sources mine, you are a star, Herbert!

Thank you, Pip!
