What do we know about White Owl Raven?

Some believe he may not have existed; others (including the James Scroll blog) believe he was an Algonquin infant captured and raised by the Cherokee, citing John Brown, Old Frontiers, and Emmett Starr's history of the Cherokee.

He's also been associated with the non-existent Thomas Pasmere Carpenter.

What's fact? What's fiction?

WikiTree's Native American project wants to know.

Thanks.

There is no one by this name in historical records.  The James Scrolls website is a mish-mash of some factual material and a lot of Internet junk.  There were some later historical Cherokee men known as White Owl, but none from this time period.  This seems to be a repurposing of one story of the origins of Attakullakulla.  His name as a young man was "Wthie Owl."  Joh Norton recorded a story from his visit to the Cherokee about 1818 that Attakullakulla was adopted as an infant.  There is nothing else in the historical record to confirm the story.  He was a captive of a Mohawk tribe for several years in the 1740's which may have led to the adoption story.

Ok White Owl Raven is disconnected from wife and child. I think now we need to figure out who the child is/is not. and who her supposed husband was. Should they remain connected.

Su-gi and ‘’Young Hop’ are also fictional.   There was a chief known as ‘Old Hop’ ; many think he was the father of ‘Granny Hopper,’ but there is no ‘Young Hop’.

Could this possibly be Savanukah (or "Savanooka"), nephew of Oconostota, the Raven of Chota

This is a mythical profile.  “Raven” is a title, not a name and almost every Cherokee town had a man called “The Raven.”

Savanooka has a Wikitree profile,Cherokee-128.
