before I do this merge... can it be undone?

+8 votes

This is a slightly controversial merge, but all of the mounting evidence points in the direction of completing it. Before I would do that, if someone of a higher authority or a deeper knowledge of a justification to NOT do the merge sees fit, can he or she undo it?

I would like to note that even further information on references may be gleaned from a post-merge FS Match, which is a compelling reason to complete this as provisional, and then "undo it," IF an undo option exists...

So, it would be the reference profile and Blount-672

I see you are working on a project protected profile. Thanks for adding sources to your comment on the profile. That is very helpful!  If you could please add a link to these sources, others could examine them also.  It appears that collaboration is ongoing. I encourage you to continue collaborating with the interested members.  It can take time but getting the information accurate is  most important. Thanks for your contributions to the Southern Colonies Project!

Thanks Paula. I didn't think about the option for adding a link - hopefully it will work for others. Link to Pending Hints - may require an active account or subscription to view

I've never attempted to share the Hints from Ancestry, so if anyone's interested in this case, please let me know if you can see the confirmation of the reference sourcing. Especially if one is a paying member of Ancestry, I think it should work. This is a good proving ground, at any rate.

Sadly, the sources are not a whole lot, but more than what I can see may exist, and I live on the free side of the paywall. wink

The link you have given leads to a private tree on Ancestry so it cannot be viewed even by those of us who do subscribe. I would recommend that you look for primary sources rather than trying to source by linking to a tree elsewhere which may or may not be sourced.

Forgot about the private tree angle. I have adjusted that setting. The link should now be open, and it should go to the Hints, which includes primary sources. Hint List for Emma Blount

I realize that mere user shares are not a primary source. That is not what I was attempting to share, nor what the sources are based upon that I updated on the pending merge (not yet set) for Emma Blount.

That now takes me to her profile on Ancestry which consists of a list of unsourced facts and no hints.
Hint lists don't really share. Best would be to add a comment with a list of links to those sources you saw in the hints.

Hi Fann,

Merges cannot be undone once a merge is completed if it's decided that they represented 2 different people another profile would need to be created for the person merged away. If there is any uncertainty of the merge I would highly suggest doing an un-merged match giving details of what information is not correct or speculative and that more information is needed before merge can continue.

NO - once a merge is done, it is pretty much impossible to undo it.

You then have to remake a new profile for the profile.that was merged.

As one of the profiles asks, do you have primary sources that prove her LNAB?

Also I'm not sure that you can merge this while she is under PPP protection. So probably nothing will happen.

Well clearly the two profiles are supposed to be the same hypothetical immigrant.  I doubt she was a Blount, but Emma Blount still needs to be merged away.

But first the whole thing needs firming up, starting from what's known.

Jean McGregor is currently married to two different Samuel Pikes.  That's a big red flag that needs disposing of.

I think the Temple Church marriages are on Ancestry.  Could somebody quote the extract for the 1683 Nickson-Pike marriage?  There should be more info than is given on FamilySearch.

What's known about Gabriel Pike and his wife?  She seems to be the germ of the idea that Emma was a Blount.
