How about adding pending links?

Hello, It is always a pleasure to find a connection between my little branch and an existing branch of the family. Would it be conceivable to conditionally connect to e.g., parents?

Not sure how it would work technically, but if my Alpha-444 was daughter to somone else's Alpha-5 and someone else-else's Bravo-35, the links would be made, but display only as PEND in all three profiles. If the holders of Alpha-444 and Bravo-35 approved adding me (which seems the only way for these family merges to work), then the real names would be substitued for PEND. If rejected, the links break.

This seems preferable to the situation now where there is a two week wait for someone to check their email.

I see disadvantages, but  it would be a nice stopping point for the links to show, even though they just say PEND, rather than having to mentally reestablish the link after the approval two weeks later.

Thanks.

Hi BK,

Proposing merges isn't too far off from this. It allows you to make a connection and have it stored -- it appears at the bottom of the profiles -- but with the final merge conditional on the other manager's approval.

The disadvantage of this is that you need to create or have a duplicate, e.g. instead of just making the link to the existing parents conditional, you have to create a duplicate parent.
