First name spelling change

I intend to expand biography and sources for Lee Roy Chambers.

Individual is listed as Leroy in first census.  But, in his home area, 'Leroy' is a pejorative.  In all later instances, his name is either Lee Roy, Lee R or simply Lee.

I have considered the census listing as a misspelling and he is listed as 'Lee Roy' in first name in this profile created by someone else.  People, including family never called him 'Leroy', only 'Lee' although his granddaughter tells me his name really is 'Leroy'.  Should 'Roy' be put in as middle name instead of included in first name?

Once I figure this out, I'll put the details into Biography.

Good question, Peggy.

IMHO, wikitree should document people, including their names. If you yield to the way others use words for reasons of ridicule, prejudice or hatred, you're validating those who assign bad connotations to the names of good people. If you yield, those people may say: "See? Prejudice works!"
