How to import GEDCOM sources

After importing my GEDCOM from Ancestry.com, I made the matches and edited them, which I think are okay. My problem is when I created profiles for ancestors who had no existing matches. After creating a profile, I matched its number to the appropriate person on my GEDCOM and edited it. Everything seemed to work okay, and I came up with a long list of sources. However, all of the profiles I created today (my grandparents), say that I don't have sources. I guess I don't understand how the sources are brought over--or not--from my GEDCOM and how I'm supposed to fix them. I'm concerned because I originally created the profiles saying that I would put in sources by July 5, and I'm afraid all my work will vanish tomorrow.

Hmm, let me take a look.  While I do so, here is a nice page of GEDCOMpare hints and Helps to peruse whilst I take a gander.

Just some good things to know and possibly answer your question as well.

Easy.  You created Freda manually before importing her data.  When you created her Profile you added no Sources so WikiTree automatically marked it as having no sources.  Which is a big no-no here on WikiTree.  When you add a name manually in the sources box just put in *To Be Added and this won't happen again when you plan to add Sources later.

Just go into edit mode and remove {{Unsourced}} at the top of the Edit Box and all will be fine.  You added Sources so this is untrue now. You won't lose anything.  This is a Maintenance Message to let others no there is aProfile that falls out side WikiTree Standards and need some TLC.

Nothing bad, just an easy mistake to make when learning WikiTree.

All the best and enjoy WikiTree.

Along with removing the {{Unsourced}} tag like LJ suggested, you can remove the 'citation' after that second sentence in the bio < ref > Source will be added by 5 Jul 2018 < / ref >  This was put in when you first added her. Now that you have sources on the profile, you can put the correct source for her death in between those ref tags.
