Hi Howard,

Do you mean Tarr Unlisted?  The only time you mostly see the term Unknown is when the Last Name At Birth is Unknown.  Since you have the last name, Tarr, I can't think of where you came across this.

However, I think you mean the Tarr Genealogy Page that has all of the Profiles on WikiTree with the last name of Tarr?  To get to this page, just click on your last name on your Profile Page.  This will give you that list of Tarrs on WIkiTree.

Unlisted Tarr on that list means the person is still alive or their date of death has not been added and they were born less than 100 years ago.  WikiTree cannot show the data of anyone it believes may still be living and thus they become Unlisted Tarr or SMith or Whatever.  The Profile Manager of that unlisted person or anyone on the Trusted List for that Profile can see any data that has been added to that Profile, but we, the gerneral membership or public can't.  It a legality ruling over Privacy Laws.

If that doesn't answer your question, please let me know by replying to this Answer.

Yes, that is the list I was referring to.  That helps explain why I have entered so many profiles with missing info that seem to vanish. I understand about the youth still living for privacy. That is good .

But for people that have PROBABLY died before the 100 year mark how can I make an entry that allows them to surface. Maybe, with some authority enter a death date of before this exclusionary date? Any thoughts?

and THANKS A BUNCH,

Howard
Thanks Howard for the thanks.

If they were born less than 100 years ago and do not have a date of death, the system will automatically make them Unlisted and until you have a date of death you can't change them.

If you have a date of birth more than 100 years ago, you can to their Privacy Tab on their Profile and change the Privacy Level to a less Private Level to allow their data to show up.  The only difference between the Public and Open Privacy levels is that the Open not only shows all data the Profile has, it also permits anyone to make changes to the Profile which is in the spirit of WikiTree. Public still shows all of the data, but anyone wishing to make a change or add to the Profile must contact the Profile Manager first for the permissions needed to do so, getting on the Profiles Trusted List.  Also if you add a date of death to a previously Unlisted Profile, you will be prompted to make a change to the Privacy Level you want the Profile to have as the Unlisted Level will be automatically removed.

You know I haven't tested this since the ruling went into effect last month making all perceived living persons unlisted, but I believe if you do not have a birth date or death date, the system has to interpret this person as living and make it unlisted.  Even if you are pretty sure they lived 200 years ago.  The system has to make decisions on the data it is given.  Finicky things these computers...LOL

All the best Howard and enjoy WikiTree
Thanks again for the clarity.
