What is this Irish Last Name? I can't read it.

Hey everybody, I found this death certificate for my ancestor Thomas B Smith, Smith-134597. His parents were from Ireland.

However, I'm starting to think I read his mother's last name wrong (sloppy handwriting) because there are zero documents for the name I interpreted it as. Could anybody with some Irish last name experience give it a shot as to what the last name could be?

Yes, and Fagin is indeed an Irish name.  But someone else transcribed it as FagiA on the family search site. Lower case 'n' letters can get mangled. easily.  I'd try to  find something about Irish surnames and their spellings - FagiA is pretty odd.  It's one way that variant spellings develop. Good question, good luck!

Hi, If you compare the "n" from the occupation electrician the "n" is the same, so go with Alice Fagin. Regards

Following the writing style of the person every n can look like an a, so I agree It is Fagin,

The N in Magazine is to short, same with Electrician, and there is an a before it it almost looks like an u, Even in Laurence the n is malformed, and in Ireland you have a U formation...

It has to be Laurence Smith & Alice Fagin.  Do not go off transcript's, if you have a copy of the certificate, check out the writing style, try and determine if that is correct, People often don't know what they are seeing, so they write what they think it is, when transcribed, that doesn't mean it is correct.

I don't know about anyone else, but I see "Fagin" right away.
